Have you ever heard of the GAVO awards? If you have then you know what we’re talking about, if you haven’t, let us tell you what it’s about:

GAVO (Gwent Association for Voluntary Organisations) was established in 1927 and is now the longest-standing and largest County Voluntary Council in Wales.

They are committed to strengthening the effectiveness of the Voluntary and Community Sector across Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire and Newport.

On Thursday, October 4th 2018, Station Manager John Price, Chairman Nathan Edwards and Social Media Coordinator Alicia Murphy attended the GAVO Awards ceremony for the Monmouthshire sector in Cwrt Bleddyn, Usk where Nathan, was nominated for the award of Trustee Volunteer.

The award ceremony commenced at 6:30 pm with Jill Evans OBE Senior Education and Development Manager of Aneurin Bevan University Health Board hosting the awards, and speeches by Martin Featherstone, GAVO Chief Executive Officer and Peter Fox OBE, Leader of Monmouthshire County Council.

The categories of awards were, Young Volunteer, Adult Volunteer, Environmental Volunteer, Trustee Volunteer, Volunteer Group, Corporate Social Responsibility, Personal Journey, Inspirational Volunteer and Monmouthshire County Council Chairman’s Award. Each category has a highly commended and a winner.

The Trustee Volunteer is about recognising the commitment, hard work and dedication of a trustee of committee member. Chairman Nathan Edwards was nominated for this award due to how committed and dedicated he is to NH Sound, making sacrifices and improvements to benefit NH Sound immensely. Station Manager John Price said that “I have never seen someone so dedicated to a charity and wanting us to strive and put NH Sound back on the map, without Nathan we wouldn’t have had a brand new studio fitted and upgraded to a 21st Century standard. We wouldn’t have got to where we are today without his support.”

Nathan was the winner of the Trustee Volunteer category, which was the category with the most nominations, “I may have won this award but it’s not just me who won, it’s everyone at NH Sound that has won this award.” Nathan said “As it is a team effort to keep the station alive and running I accept this award on behalf of everyone at NH Sound, thank you for your continuous support, we have a fantastic team here at NH Sound.”
